4TH OF MARCH 2015

[The Program of the Concert]

Moderated by:

Lucie Hrdličková, Kristýna Dvořáková (students of Gymnázium Jihlava)

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to a concert which is held as a part of the project “Erasmus+ Jihlava and Lerma: through word, song, dance, folk costume”.
20 members of HSGJ (Music Association of Gymnázium Jihlava) have come to introduce to you the Czech music during the centuries.
They are going to sing and play some solo instruments as well. They are also going to show you folk dance from the region Vysočina where we live.
As introduction you are going to hear a few old Czech songs. The oldest one, from 12th century, is a choral and it’s called "Svatý Václave – Saint Wenceslas”. In this religious chant the Czech nation turns to its patron (Saint Wenceslas). The choral was used as national and war anthem.
But before that, you’re going to hear a medieval song “Solis preavia”. It comes from 15th century and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
Jan Campanus Vodňanský, Renaissance writer, poet, composer and also the Rector of the Charles University, is the author of the song “Rorando coeli defluant”.
Baroque is represented in our program by František Ignác Tůma. “Caligaverunt oculi mei” also belongs to Lenten period which is passing of in these days.

The following two songs are not from Czrech artists.
The song "Santo“ is the only one that we sing in Spanish. It is a part of a mass and it comes from Argentina. It was so popular that it became traditional and the author's name was forgotten.
The author of a prayer set to music "Pater noster“ is a contemporary Spanish teacher and composer Xabier Sarasola.

Thanks to HSGJ (Music association). We will meet them once more today. Soloists are going to follow the choir now.
Matěj Čermák is going to introduce Czech Renaissance instrumental music. We will hear from him part of "Aria" and "Sarabande“ from suite of Jan Antonín Losy.
František Křepela is going to play "Clarinet concerto Es dur 1st part“ by Jan Antonín Koželuh, accompanied on piano by Eliška Vyhnálková.
You might know the next song "Humoresque" from Antonín Dvořák. It comes from the Romantic period and it will be played for us by Pavel Kolář on violin and Natálie Kottová on piano.
Leoš Janáček, one of our most famous composers, is so original that we can not fit him into any of the artistic direction. Eliška Petříková is going to play for us his song "In the mists“.

Josef Suk, student and son-in-law of Antonín Dvořák, composer of the first half of the 20th century, is the author of next two compositions. "Appassionato“ will be played by Viktor Němeček, on the piano accompanies Mrs. Eliška Vyhnálková. You will hear trio "With flowers in his hand"“ played by Václav Venglář, Pavel Kolář and Eliška Petříková.

Now you will hear two samples of Czech jazz music. "Bugatti step“ of Jaroslav Ježek is from the year 1931. Plays Jiří Frantál.
Then will come again Matěj Čermák and will play "Blues Song" from contemporary composer and teacher Milan Tesař.

We are pleased that in the program of today’s concert also performs a Czech –Spanish duo: Kamila Čermáková and Almudena Parras González.

Would you like to dance? So we‘ll show you at least what kind of dances were danced in our region Horácko in the past.
Choreography of four dances from region Horácko "Čí je děvče", "Řezanka", "Boleslav" and "Kominíček" was prepared by Zbyšek Voda.

Let us welcome back the choir of Gymnázium Jihlava.
The choir will now sing the sample of the Czech music from 19. – 21. century.
The first song is called "If the scythe was sharpened“ written by Antonin Dvořák. This song is a part of the Moravian Duets.
Another song written by the world famous composer Bohuslav Martinů. Who was born in our region, but spent most of his life abroad. This song will be sing only by women´s part of the choir and it is called “Accusation”.
Then you will hear one folk song called: „By the Raven’s bridge“.

Following by the mixture of the Horácko songs which contains the song named “Dostaveníčko na Horácku - A tryst in Horácko”. This song was modified specially for our choir by Míla Brtník. Accompanied by Viktor Němeček, who will play the violin and Kamila Čermáková, she will play the violoncello.

Through our journey of the Czech music history we are slowly getting to the end of the concert. But before the end comes you will hear the last three songs, which were created in the 21st century.
The song named "Gloria Musica“, written by Jan Míšek, is the celabration of music.
Another song called "Golem“, written by Mikuláš Troupa, is the youngest one from the repertory. This song was created in the composing competition last year. With this song, which is compulsory for this competition, will the choir of the Gymnázium Jihlava participate in April.
And last song with which we will say our goodbye is called “The bells of Lady Carneval”.

Dear guests, we hope that you had a great time with us and that you will take some of the Czech music with you.
Finaly, we would like to say our goodbye from the site of the choir pianist Eliška Vyhnálková and the choirmaster Dagmar Němečková. Enjoy the rest of the evening, Lucie Hrdličková and Kristýna Dvořáková.
