The school IES Valle del Arlanza is located in the street El Parque nº 4, in Lerma (Burgos). It is located on the left shore of the Arlanza, from which it come its name, near the primary and nursery schools Pons Sorolla. Until 7 years ago, the center was located in the monastery of Santo Domingo de Guzman, but the new building was constructed to include an educational center.

The school has about 300 students aged between 12 and 18 years. The study is divided into two types: Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), between 12 and 16 years old. All young people should take these compulsory studies; and GCSE, between 16 and 18 years, which prepares students for university studies. Erasmus + is attend students aged between 15 and 18 years old.

The curriculum consists of compulsory subjects (Spanish language, Mathematics, Science, History, English), and several optional subjects with which each student compile their educational itinerary. Depending on the chosen subjects, future studies will be college or vocational school.

All students begin classes every day at 8:30 and ends 14:20. There are 6 classes of 50 minutes each, with 5 minute breaks between classes and recess 30 minutes mid-morning.
