City Hall of Lerma, Museo Yáñez, Santo Domingo de Silos, Covarrubias

We dedicated the penultimate day of our excursion to getting to know the region around Lerma. But before that we visited the city hall of Lerma. It is not as big or old as the city hall of Jihlava but the excursion was pretty interesting. One thing we were really excited about was the amazing acoustic of the entrance hall. We also found out that every couple of years Lerma pays an artist to paint the whole city and the paintings are shown in the city hall. At the end of the excursion we met the mayor of Lerma: Celia Izquierdo Arroyo. We talked with her and then we took a few pictures together. Later an article in a local newspaper came out about our visit to the city hall. Then we hit the road.

The first place we saw was Museo Yáñez. It’s an open-air museum bulit by only one man who also owns it. The Museum shows to us life of the Spanish people in Middle Age. There we sang to the owner of the museum and other visitors a couple of songs from Czech Republic. We also sang our national anthem. They really liked it, because the Spanish anthem doesn’t have lyrics, but ours does.

After that we went by bus to El Monasterio de Santo Domingo de Silos. It’s an all-men monastery and first documents go to year 954. We listened there to an original Gregorian chant sang by monks. Those monks, who live there, sing every day original Gregorian chant, conected with that day or season, since the foundation of monastery.

From there we went to a little village called Covarrubias. We ate lunch there, which consisted of typical Spanish food.
