Workshop „In the footsteps of Gustav Mahler in Jihlava“

 

One of the points of our project was to introduce life and work of Gustav Mahler, who was born near Jihlava and who lived in the city in his youth, to Spanish students.

The idea to cooperate with Museum of Vysočina region started in September 2016. We asked Mrs. Silvie Čermáková for help, pedagogue and educativ worker of the museum, who had cooperated with us for years.

Mrs. Čermáková accepted our offer with ebulliance. The project meeting of Czech and Spanich teachers, where we discused the final form of that part of the project, took place in November in the city of Jihlava.

Gradually, the information leaflet and the follow up work sheet were made. The texts, which were used, were created by Mrs. Čermáková. We have judged dificulty of those texts for translation. Mrs. Čermáková was willing to make a few edits.

The texts were translated into English and Spanish. Spanish members have taken control of correctness of those translations.

The "Spainmahler team" had few meetings with Mrs. Čermáková, where everything was finely tuned and the training before the arrival of Spanish students was solved.

The activity itself took place on Thursday 10th of March in the afternoon. In the morning Spanish students were presenting about Antonio de Cabezón in Spanish and English and some of them danced their prepared exhibition of Spanish medieval dance "cantigas"

The afternoon workshop named “Po stopách Gustava Mahlera v Jihlavě” that means “In the footsteps of Gustav Mahler in Jihlava” took place in Spanish in the museum called “Muzeum Vysočiny” (Museum of Vysočina region) and then also outside the museum. The students visited specific places connected with the life of Gustav Mahler in Jihlava. The Spanish students were acquainted not only with life and work of Gustav Mahler but also with a simplified form of history of our city.

After the end of the workshop some of the students individually visited the House of Gustav Mahler.

The whole activity took place in positive note and everybody really liked it.

Students of Gymnázium Jihlava translated all texts also into German. Museum of Vysočina region will use these translations for other foreign visitors of our city.
